A day has hours. A day has passed after the hour hand on a clock with revolving hands has gone two rounds. A day starts at 00:00 am, which is at midnight.
The word day has two meanings. It can mean the time between every midnight, which is how we have used it until now. It can also mean the time from sunrise to sunset, which is opposite to night.
When we put seven days after each other, you get a new unit of time, which is known as a week. Every day of the week has its own name.
The seven days of the week are:
The first day of the week is: MONDAY
The second day of the week is: TUESDAY
The third day of the week is: WEDNESDAY
The fourth day of the week is: THURSDAY
The fifth day of the week is: FRIDAY
The sixth day of the week is: SATURDAY
The seventh day of the week is: SUNDAY
Monday is the first day of the week. We call the five first days weekdays. Weekdays are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The two last days, Saturday and Sunday, we call the weekend.
The weekend actually begins when you are done with school on Friday. So, we can say that the weekend lasts from when you’re finished with school on Friday until you go to bed on Sunday.
Think About This
It is useful to learn all of the days. They can be easier to remember if you find yourself a melody you can sing the days to:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
